WHY CHRIS?

In 1996 Christopher shipped his BMW R100GS PD to Cuba as a licensed professional journalist and rode more than 7,000 miles during a three-month motorcycle journey, resulting in publication of his Moon Cuba guidebook and his award-winning National Geographic travelogue Mi Moto Fidel: Motorcycling Through Castro's Cuba, as well as dozens of magazine and newspaper feature articles. 

In January 2013, Christopher secured a license from the U.S. Treasury Department authorizing the first group motorcycle programs in Cuba under the "people-to-people" license category. That year he led the first U.S. motorcycle group tour of Cuba end-to-end since the 1959 Revolution. He has since arranged and led motorcycle tours through Cuba for such entities as Bob's BMW of Maine, Edelweiss Bike Travel, and the BMW Rider Academy of Turkey, among others.

He has ridden through Cuba dozens of times on motorcycles as varied as BMW R100GS, F650GS, F700GS, F800GS, and 1200GS, Harley-Davidson Softail and Harley-Davidson Road King, and even a Suzuki V-Strom 1000.

CUBA EXPERT

Christopher—the Lowell Thomas Award 2008 ‘Travel Journalist of the Year’—has been hailed by National Geographic as "One of the world’s foremost authorities on Cuba travel and culture." Chris written and photographed eight travel books, plus countless magazine articles about Cuba for such entities as BBC Travel, CNN Travel, National Geographic Traveler, and Playboy. His has appeared on radio and TV news and talk shows from ABC News, Al Jazeera, BBC, CBS News, and CNN to Fox News and MSNBC, among others.

Plus, he has led more than one hundred programs to Cuba for Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic Expeditions, among other prestigious tour companies, as well as medical delegations as the UCSF Medical Global Initiative, the Children's Cancer Association, and even CNN's Michael Smerconish. In 2019, he led Los Angeles Times Expeditions' 'Cuban Chrome' trips for auto and motorcycle enthusiasts and has been hired to lead similar trips for A&E's History Channel beginning in 2023.
